DTI VI to nurture In-School Youth entreps, start-ups

In line with the Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) Mentorship Academy, the Department of Trade and Industry VI has launched a program to stimulate and enhance the entrepreneurial mindset among the In-School Youth (ISY). Dubbed as the YEP: In-School Entrepreneurs Academy (YEP: iSEA), it aims to guide young entrepreneurs to operate their business successfully and assist ISY aspiring as start-ups to translate their ideas into a minimum viable product. DTI VI Regional Director Rebecca M. Rascon said that the YEP: iSEA is intended to prepare and harness the skills of the younger generation as future entrepreneurs. “We will hone their skills and encourage them to engage in business,” she added. SSFs back on track, gov’t assistance continues

Notwithstanding the impact of the pandemic on business activities, the DTI continues to monitor the operation and extend assistance needed by shared service facilities (SSF) cooperators throughout the country. According to the report conducted by the DTI Bureau of SME Development (BSMED), most of the SSFs were affected by the pandemic but restarted to full and/or partial operations as of September 2020. Fifty percent of the SSFs surveyed experienced shutdown from March to April while others were partially operating during weekdays. Most of the affected SSFs belong to the industry clusters on processed food, coffee, bamboo, coco coir, cacao and gifts, decors and housewares. SSFs who were yet to start on September 2020 were still coping with their compliance with the health and safety protocols by the government, likewise, the restrictions imposed in their areas, decline in demand, disruption in supply chains, and cashflow concerns. DTI VI pours in P18.5M for bamboo industry dev’t in WV

The DTI Iloilo Provincial Office and the University of the Philippines in the Visayas - School of Technology plant bamboo saplings at the UPV Miag-ao Campus in celebration of the World Bamboo Day on Sept. 18. The DTI VI is leading the right direction that would provide appropriate methods in the development of the bamboo industry in Region VI. The DTI VI has already allotted over P18M to ensure sustainable utilization and promotion of bamboo for new industries.
