Aklan products to welcome tourists during Boracay Island re-opening
The
DTI Aklan Provincial Office is setting up a product showcase during the
re-opening of the country’s premier tourist destination, Boracay Island, in
Malay, Aklan on Friday, October 26, 2018.
No
less than 20 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Boracay Island
and Kalibo will display their products highlighting the assistance provided by
the DTI on branding, packaging and labeling, among others.
DTI
VI Regional Director Rebecca M. Rascon said that this activity will further MSMEs
market reach, regain lost opportunities during the island’s closure, and will
serve as gateway to the world, as domestic and foreign tourists are expected to
once again flock in the island.
The
product display will be at the Cagban Port and at the City Mall Boracay.
Further,
the DTI will be distributing starter kits to displaced workers affected by the
temporary closure of the island. These beneficiaries are those MSMEs who
underwent training and assistance from the DTI Aklan Provincial Office though
the Negsoyo Center Boracay.
About
P2.3 million worth of starter kits under the Livelihood Seeding Program will be
given to some 200 beneficiaries that includes equipment and ingredients for siomai
making, puto pau making, silkscreen printing, soap making, and waste recycling,
among others.
DTI
Undersecretary Zenaida Cuison-Maglaya representing Secretary Ramon M. Lopez will
join the other key officials of agencies responsible for the Boracay Island
rehabilitation during the opening ceremonies.
