In line with DTI’s
mandate of ensuring that consumers are provided with safe and quality products,
the DTI VI joins nationwide monitoring and enforcement especially on product standards on July 5, 2019.
The DTI VI has a total of 13 teams simultaneously deployed in Iloilo (4), Aklan (2), Antique (2), Capiz (2), Guimaras (1) and Negros Occidental (2) for this enforcement activity.
The Philippine National Standards (PNS) requires that all deformed steel bars shall have a clearly embossed manufacturer’s logo as well as the bar size in line with PNS requirements. Sizes vary in diameter from 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, 32mm, 36mm, 40mm and 50mm.
On the other hand, rerolled steel bars vary from 6mm, 7mm, and 8mm in diameter sizes.
Steel bars are mainly used as concrete reinforcement in residential, commercial and industrial buildings and structures. Using certified standard steel bars ensures the safety of building and home occupants.
The establishments issued with NoV have 48 hours to explain at DTI Provincial Offices why formal charges should not be filed against them. Sanctions for violating the Products Standards Law include imposition of administrative fine and confiscation of non-conforming products for disposition in accordance with DTI and Commission on Audit rules and regulations.
