Fun run kicks-off Consumer Welfare Month this October

participants registered in this year’s Consumer Fun Run on Sunday, September 29.
The activity marks the beginning of the month-long Consumer Welfare Month
celebration this October.

A
total of 210 participants registered and joined the recently concluded 4th
Consumer Fun Run initiated by the DTI VI which traversed the three-kilometer
loop from the Sunburst Park to City Mall – Parola and back, on Sunday, Sept. 30,
2019.
With
the theme, “Sustainable Consumption: Understanding the
Impact of Consumer Choices in a Shared Environment,” the activity was part of the campaign to strengthen public awareness of
their rights, interests, and as well as responsibilities as consumers.
DTI
VI Regional Director Rebecca M. Rascon, who also took time to join the fun run,
welcomed the participants as she emphasized the importance of having a full
grasp of one’s privileges as consumers.
A
consumer must understand their rights to: basic needs, safety, information, choose,
representation; redress; consumer education; and, healthy environment. And, consumer
responsibilities, namely: critical awareness, action, social concern,
environmental awareness, and solidarity.
Those
who joined the activity were from the academe; other national government agencies
namely: PhilHealth, SSS, DoH, BSP, DENR, OWWA, PNP, DAR, and Bureau of Immigration,
among others; and, Bagwis-awardee establishments, among others.
